Glamorous Great Gatsby-Inspired Weddingsby Jennifer Sparks on March 22, 2012 at 9:07 am
Between The Artist winning the Oscar for Best Picture, and the new buzzed-about film adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, a 1920s cultural revival is well under way. From feather-embellished florals to romantic color combinations, the Jazz Age is even making its way into the wedding scene.
And it’s what inspired our first VaseOff! Design Challenge. Keep reading!
Supermodel Kate Moss helped bring this “roaring” era back to life at her 2011 nuptials to rocker Jamie Hince. Every detail was perfect for the modern day Daisy Buchanan — including a jazz band playing in the garden, lanterns hanging from fruit trees, and antique wicker chairs arranged on the lawn. Nosegays of soft apricot and lilac roses adorned tabletops. There was even a Hollywood boudoir style “Second Looks Tent” for guests to do a wardrobe change. View the Vogue slideshow for every stunning special touch.
“I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus,” Moss told Vogue. “‘The Great Gatsby.’ The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-’n'-roll ‘Great Gatsby’!'”
Brides across the country are embracing “The Great Gatsby” theme, creatively incorporating the elegance and opulence of the time period into their big days. A blog post by 100 Layer Cake shows how Shannon and Ed’s wedding was the ultimate throwback to the 1920s. From the bridal party attire to the flowers and décor, the Jazz era was in full swing for their outdoor bash. Check out all the wedding details on 100 Layer Cake.
Since we can’t get enough of the glamour, “The Great Gatsby” will be the theme of our first VaseOff! challenge. This online series of floral design challenges kicks off on April 9 with four award-winning floral designers competing to design a 1920s inspired bouquet worthy of Daisy Buchanan. Be sure to visit our blog to cast your vote for the winner.
